An honest take on Doctor Who

The Shakespeare Code- 6.5/10

I wasn’t really blown away by this episode. It seemed pretty bland to me. I hope the whole season isn’t like this.

THINGS I LOVED:

20130823-073209.jpg

I liked the fact that this was around witches and I liked the era they chose. I love how the show takes a myth like witches and has an alien spin to it. It makes the myth seem plausible. To me at least.

The make up for the witches was really well done. I always love it when they choose to do make up over CGI.

Loved the shout out to Harry Potter. It makes me happy to hear about Potttaaahh!

THINGS I HATED:

20130823-073630.jpg

Again with a famous person. Why can’t it be a random time in the past with no famous person in it? Can people not relate well? It is getting old!

I found myself loosing interest throughout this episode. I don’t know if the pacing was off or what, but it seemed just blah. I think it needed more.

THINGS THAT MADE MY EYE TWITCH:

20130823-074113.jpg

When can we stop hearing about Rose?! She is gone and yet I am still having to deal with her! Enough is enough!

I hate that Martha is drooling over the Doctor now. The character deserves so much more than this.

This episode was lacking in a bunch of areas. I just can’t put my finger on it. Maybe I am just getting too picky.

Smith and Jones- 5/10

This episode was just meh. I didn’t really have an issue with it as a whole. Just the small things were irritating.

THINGS I LOVED:

20130822-074307.jpg

The episode as a whole was pretty good. The idea of a lockdown on the moon was okay. I just wish they would have gone farther with it.

THINGS I HATED:

20130822-074539.jpg

There were several things that were really corny in this episode. The major one being the straw. It is a regular straw. How the heck can it break the skin so easily??

Everyone running around screaming was over the top. Where are they going to run to? Oh, hiding behind the chairs will totally work. I just found myself making fun a lot of the things they put in this episode.

THINGS THAT MADE MY EYES TWITCH:

20130822-074842.jpg

Right off the bat it is about the companion. Why?? Why is this a staple for the new Doctor Who? I don’t care about Martha’s family! They are irritating.

The kiss was horrible. Why? Why? He could have sneezed on her. That would have been better. Now they have this romantic thing going on. Minus points!

The more I think about it, the more I really don’t like this episode.

Why Is David Tennant So Popular?

I stumbled upon a little article explaining why David Tennant is still so popular. You can see the article here.

He gives Russell T. Davies way too much credit. Like he was some amazing story teller. Half of his episodes were drama filled! No creativity whatsoever! A majority of the things RTD did was to lure fangirls into the show. I can never forgive him for that.

Why is David Tennant still so popular? Because he is attractive still. That is why. Girls drool over him and guys want to be like him. Is this a shallow look at it? Yes, but most of the time it is the truth.

It isn’t this big mystery people. Look at all the fan’s of David on twitter. What kind of posts do they make?

I rest my case.

The Runaway Bride- 7/10

I love Donna. She is really unique companion wise. Well, she isn’t a companion yet. It was nice to see a woman not follow the Doctor. He isn’t all that and a bag of chips!

THINGS I LOVED:

20130818-204725.jpg
I really appreciated the fact that they didn’t use CGI for the Empress. It looked well done and they could have easily made it all computer graphics. Kudos to them for that.

Like I said before, I really loved Donna. When she got in the Tardis and realized she wasn’t on Earth, she didn’t do the usual freak out. She just wanted to get back.

THINGS I HATED:

The Doctor claimed that he couldn’t take Donna back because he can’t go back on peoples timelines. Oh, okay, that makes sense seeing as how he does it all the time!

The sound effect they used for when Donna falls when swinging across the lair was silly. It sounded like something from a cartoon.

The Doctor used his sonic screwdriver way too much in this episode. I found some of the uses to be ridiculous. Were they trying to break a record or something?

THINGS THAT MADE MY EYES TWITCH:

Rose just had to be in this one. Even if it was for five seconds. Five seconds too long if you ask me.

Overall I enjoyed this episode. Kind of. Okay, it had it’s few enjoyable moments. That is good considering what I just endured before.

The Big Bang- ?/10

The question mark represents what I was doing the whole time I was watching this episode. Nothing made sense. Yet again I can’t really review this because I am not able to really understand the episode at all.

WHY ISN’T RORY STONE?
During this time of the episode, Rory is the auton. He was made by whomever it was that trapped the Doctor. Shouldn’t he be made of stone like the other roman autons? Speaking of stone, why are they even turning into stone? Shouldn’t they just disappear? Why is the pandorica not stone?

HOW DOES THE DOCTOR GO BACK WHEN TIME IS SLOWLY DISAPPEARING?
Reality slowly starts to dwindle away while they are in the museum. How did the Doctor manage to go back in time to anything just minutes before? Why is earth so special anyway? And why is reality starting to dwindle right at that moment?

HOW DOES THE ENDING MAKE SENSE TO ANYONE?

River Song says that the Doctor will be trapped on the other side of the wall and will cease to exist. The Doctor explains to Amy that she can make things appear due to the universe leaking in her room all those years ago due to the crack in the wall. When he goes into the exploding Tardis, he sees time being rewound. He tells Amy to remember. Finally, when she is a girl, he goes into the crack and it seals. There is no crack then. She didn’t get all those years of the universe to leak on her. Therefore, she has no ability to make people appear. So how does she make the Doctor appear? Also why does she wake up and ends up surprised by having parents? Didn’t she end up having them all those years because time was fixed? Where did River Song come from?! Who wrote this?!! Ahhhh!!! My brain is melting!!

This episode is a mess. It really hurts to watch it.

The Pandorica Opens- 5/10

This episode really gave me a headache. Instead of doing my normal review, I am just going to ask a bunch of questions that formed in my mind as I watched.

HOW DOES RORY REMEMBER EVERYTHING?

20130818-170116.jpg So, the Rory in this episode is actually a plastic robot (even though they make a metallic noise) waiting to mess things up. They created him from a photo in Amy’s room. Why does he remember anything that happened after the photo? And why is he the only one that is awake while being controlled? He shoots Amy and is conscious of it. Why? He isn’t really Rory. This makes no sense to me.

HOW IS THE EMPTY SHELL OF THE CYBERMAN MOVING?

20130818-170544.jpg
Rory kills a cyberman that was attacking Amy. No one was in the suit. I thought that there had to be someone in the suit for it to work. So how is this one moving?

WHERE DOES RIVER SONG LAND WHEN THE TARDIS BLOWS UP?

20130818-170739.jpg

In the end, River Song opens the Tardis doors and sees a stone wall. What does this mean??? Where is she? Why is there so many darn questions?!

Is it so hard to have an episode where we can just view and enjoy it? I get wanting a little mystery for the next episode but crapadoo! My head literally hurts now!

The Lodger- 6/10

I am not sure what they were trying to do with this episode. Was it supposed to be cute and light hearted to prepare you for the season finale? It ended up flopping with me.

THINGS I LOVED:
I really have to think about this because there wasn’t really a lot that I liked. The only thing I really appreciated was the flash of information the Doctor sent to Craig. Only because it showed the past Doctors.

THINGS I HATED:

20130818-065833.jpg

Modern day Earth again?! There are billions of planets out in the universe. Why keep going back to Earth? This lacks creativity.

I feel like they are trying way too hard in this episode. It is cute, but not enough to make it enjoyable. They made Craig’s awkwardness over the top and it got annoying.

THINGS THAT MADE MY EYES TWITCH:

20130818-070218.jpg

Love conquers the day! Sweet little butterflies and roses all over! Really?! C’mon! That spaceship would have killed them both and then the Doctor would have turned dark and angry. I hate corny endings.

I am getting really tired of Rory and Amy. Rory isn’t even in this one and yet I still manage to get irritated at him! I wish we could have an episode without the romantic bull.
