The End of Time Part 2- Negative Infinity/10

This was by far the most drawn out episode I have ever witnessed in my whole entire life. I have never seen an episode in a show that has just stretched scenes out with drama and unnecessary fluff.

Each scene in this episode could have been cut by a good five minutes. The laser scene, the Doctor choosing who to shoot, don’t get me started on when the Doctor has a hissy fit.

I don’t understand why they decided to dwell on some of the aspects of this episode. The arc itself was already boring to me from the start. Going into this second part I was already tired of the story. At least I don’t have to deal with the 10th Doctor anymore.

I had to skip over him having a hissy about having to sacrifice himself to save Wilfred. It was so out of character to me. Not only did he have a hissy, he had it in front of Wilfred. Even if the Doctor tells him it is alright, he is still going to feel guilty over that. Since when has the Doctor been so narcissistic?

The whole ending was horrible as well. I had to skip over that part as well. I have seen it before and I remember wanting to puke when it got to Rose.

My eyes need a break from all the rolling they have done. My brain needs a break from all the crap it has had to endure. On to the sixth series. Thank Glob I am done with the 10th Doctor. Hate me all you want, I am happy.

The End of Time Part 1- 2/10

This episode was tiresome. It wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t good either. It just exists. The Master comes back which should be exciting, but it’s not. Mainly because of the plot surrounding his return.

THINGS I LOVED:

Image

Wilfred is so amazing as a companion. I really wish they would have had him on the show more. If only they had more companions like him now. Instead we have Clara..

THINGS I HATED:

Image

What have they done to the Master? He used to be this awesome character who was not to be messed with. Now he has magical powers and eats a lot. He has been turned into a comic relief. The fact that there is now hundreds of Masters isn’t even scary. The whole idea is silly. It makes it worse to see him in a skirt and heels. Why can’t they take his character serious? They have done that with all the classic parts of the show now. They are all now silly.

THINGS THAT MADE MY EYES TWITCH:

Image

What was the point of having these aliens in the story? Do they serve any purpose other than making things stupid? They are totally pointless and really dumbs down and already stupid episode.

I have nothing else to say about this episode. That is how much I think of it. Even the Time Lords at the end couldn’t save this story for me.

Planet of the Dead- 6.5/10

This was the first time I have seen this episode. For some reason it has always avoided my eyes. It has been well hidden from me and I was really excited to watch it. I am honestly on the fence about how I feel about this episode. There were things that I loved, but at the same time I felt my eyes were constantly wanting to roll.

THINGS THAT I LOVED:

Image

The story itself was great and very creative. There weren’t a lot of plot holes and everything seemed to be explained. Nothing was rushed and I really enjoyed the overall feel of the episode.

I really loved the dialog in this one. I found myself laughing at what was being said which doesn’t happen a lot in the newer series.

THINGS THAT I HATED:

Image

There were way too many silly scenes in this episode. For example, it is really hard for me to believe that the guards wouldn’t look behind them to see a woman coming down from the ceiling. They would have to be the stupidest guards not to notice the sound of the rope or not get that feeling that something was going on behind them. Why were they so keen on not looking at the cup. It was almost like they thought they would be turned to stone if they did. I just thought that whole scene was unbelievable.

Another silly scene was at the very end when Christina flies away in the bus. I highly doubt Unit is going to let anyone just fly around London in a bus willy nilly like that. Especially a thief who is on the run from the police. Think of what she could do with that bus!

THINGS THAT MADE MY EYES TWITCH:

Image

The banter between the Doctor and Christina was disgusting. How many times can we hear that they are a perfect match or that they are made for each other? Why can’t we have a companion that just hangs out with the Doctor? Why do we have to have that sexual tension? They use that as a crutch now and it is getting old.

Don’t get me started on the kiss. My eyes are sore from how much they were rolling during that scene. I think they were rolling so fast that I made my own little wormhole.

The romantic link between Christina and the Doctor ruined this episode for me. It is so frustrating because it was such a great plot. It could have gotten a higher score if they would have just left that romantic crap behind.

The Next Doctor- 6/10

This was a decent episode. It certainly was a step up from what came before. I think anything would have been great following that whole Rose/Donna story arc. We are teased with the possibility of the Doctor meeting his future incarnation. Who exactly filled those shoes? The Governor of course! If you don’t know I am a fan of The Walking Dead. I tried to find a photo of the Governor and Jackson Lake combined. I know it is out there. I have seen it…

THINGS THAT I LOVED:

untitled-1

David Morrissey was awesome in this episode. He really would have made a great Doctor. That was one great thing about this story was the fact that you were right there with the Doctor trying to figure out if he was a future incarnation of himself. The explanation of why Jackson thought he was the Doctor was good. It made sense, but to a point. I will go into more detail about that later.

I appreciated that this episode was set in the past and it didn’t have a famous historical figure in it. I always hate it when they do that. It is such an obvious crutch. There also wasn’t any over the top Christmas references. It felt more like it was just another day in the winter than anything else. Usually they force Christmas carols and turkeys down your throat with the specials.

THINGS THAT I HATED:

The-next-doctor

The whole Allons-y quote in the beginning was silly. One thing that I don’t understand is how Jackson knew so many small details about the Doctor. He had a “sonic screwdriver” that was just a screwdriver. He knew this. Why did he point it at the Cybershade like it was going to kill it. This makes zero sense. Even with the actual sonic screwdriver it doesn’t make sense. It is another overuse of the screwdriver. I get that he would know about the Tardis and that he is a Timelord, but to say Allons-y and know about the sonic screwdriver was  a bit much. How could he have known about that? It was a infostamp from the Cybermen. The Cybermen wouldn’t know that he says that and that what he holds was a sonic screwdriver would they?

There were way too many corny parts in this episode for it to get a proper rating from me. The worst scene would have to be when the stranger asks Jackson who was the man in the hot air balloon and Jackson states, “His name, sir… is The Doctor!” C’mon! Was that really necessary? Another corny scene was when Jackson and the Doctor find the children working in the cyber base. I was expecting the kids to break out in song at any moment.

It doesn’t really explain how everything was blown up when the Doctor broke the cyberlink from the Cyberking. I hate it when I have to look up stuff after I get done watching the episode. To me the explanation doesn’t count.

THINGS THAT MADE MY EYES TWITCH:

ep4x

The Cybermen are loud as hell when they march. You could probably hear them from five miles away. They can’t sneak up on anyone, and yet they do it twice in this episode. Stop with this madness! It is such a silly oversight!

I hate the whole ending of this episode. I wish they would have gone a different way with it all. How can you not think of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers when watching this? I was wanting Kimberly to come out and save us all.

This episode could have been really good if they hadn’t been so dramatic with everything. Even the music was over the top. Sometimes simple is the best way to go about things.

Turn Left- Fork In My Eye/10

This episode was a doozy. I have seen this one before, so luckily for me I didn’t really have to rewatch it to remember all the details. I tried to get through the whole thing, I really did. Like my rating states, I felt like a fork was being forced in my eye.

Right of the bat I have issues with this story. First, Donna is not that stupid to fall for the trap of getting her fortune told due to the “red hair discount”. It was so obvious that the woman was trying to lure her into something sinister. Give Donna some credit people. To me that was just insulting to her character. Second, why was it so hard for her to get away from the woman’s grip? It is another punch at Donna’s character. So not only is she stupid now, she is also weak.

Again, we are reminded that the Doctor would be dead without the companion to save his butt every single step of the way. When did he become this? I am sorry, but I am sure that if Donna hadn’t been with him in The Runaway Bride he would have found another plan to get out safely. Don’t get me started on the fact that he couldn’t regenerate because he died too fast. How convenient.

Then when I think it couldn’t get any worse with the episode, Rose shows up. I rest my case with why I had to stop. I really don’t have any other reason why. I hate Rose that much. I can’t take her anymore. Like I said before, I remember what happens in most of the episode. It isn’t worth reviewing. It is all so silly to me due to the fact that the situation could have been avoided if the writers would have stayed true to Donna’s character. She wouldn’t have even got in the tent with whatever evil woman that was.

That is another thing I don’t understand. Who is the evil woman? Why is she so keen on the destruction of the Doctor? It explains what the bug is, but not the woman. It is almost like the story was too huge for them to be wrapped up in something so minuscule as to why the woman was wanting the Doctor dead. We have bigger fish to fry!  They do that a lot now lately. They create such a huge story arc and forget to connect the little dots in between. It is sloppy to me.

In the end of the episode, the Doctor tells Donna that she is special. That there is a reason why they keep meeting. Why does this have to be a staple in the new series now? Can’t we just have a normal companion that is just along for the fantastic voyage of time travel? Why does it have to be this huge season long mystery? It is getting old and tiresome.

I can’t do this story arc. I am sorry. I may review it later on when I can handle so much Rose at one time, but for now I am going to just skip it. On to The Next Doctor!

Midnight- 7.5/10

Ah yes, the famous detour of death story line. As a horror fan I know this plot well. Take a detour, find death stalking you for the rest of the trip. So much for an awesome vacation.

THINGS I LOVED:

This is by far the creepiest episode I have seen in the new series. It is rare for me to enjoy an episode written by Davies. In this one he is spot on. The pacing was good, nothing was rushed. Everything made sense. No over the top drama. Well, there was some, but it was a different kind of drama. The right kind of drama. The knocking was a good touch and it stayed creepy during the whole episode. You don’t see a lot of shows that can do that.

I also liked that it was a companion light episode.

The acting in this episode was amazing. It is really the only reason why I rated it so high. I loved how they brought in the issue of how humans react in a high anxiety issue. We really act like idiots don’t we?

THINGS I HATED:

Image

Am I really supposed to believe that this was set in the future? There was nothing futuristic about this whole episode! They were wearing modern-day clothes, had ear buds for headphones. Even the coffee pot was normal! At least give us a cool coffee pot! Something! The fact that they didn’t even try with the set and costumes just took a lot out of the episode for me.

For the love of God, can we please just have a season without Rose in it? Why is she still here?! This made the rating drop 2 points. Just her face.

Overall it was a surprisingly great episode. I am really dreading the next story. It is going to be a doosie.

Forrest of the Dead- 8.5/10

As the conclusion to Silence in the Library, everything was explained all nice and neat. I wish things were like that now in the show. This has to be one of my favorite episodes of the new series so far. I don’t have anything that I flat out hated. There were a few little nit picky things not even worth mentioning, so I am just going to name the positive things that were in the episode.

20140130-193431.jpg

I loved the whole thought of Donna being “saved” in a huge hard drive. Everything seemed like a dream to her. The fact that she had to let go of her imaginary children really got to me. I was telling my husband how that would have ruined me if I had been her. Donna’s “husband” fading into the abyss and not knowing if he was real or not didn’t help much either. What a depressing thought. Depressing, but incredible.

The soundtrack to this episode was really awesome. It wasn’t over the top, and I wouldn’t mind listening to it at random times of the day.

I really liked that there wasn’t anything that didn’t make sense. I would bring something up and moments later it would be explained. Oh how Moffat has changed.

River Song was awesome in this episode. She wasn’t overly flirtatious and her plot made sense. We are left with questions as to who she is, but it wasn’t to confusing.

Overall this episode was top notch! The pacing was perfect. I really wish every story line was like this. I can dream I guess.
